SATURDAY, JANUARY 27 & SUNDAY, JANUARY 28
Violinist Gary Levinson
Pianist Paul Posnak with guest Eugene Levinson

Russian-born prodigy Gary Levinson joined the New York Philharmonic while still a student at the Juilliard School. Winner of major international competitions, Artistic Director of the Chamber Music Society of Fort Worth and Senior Principal Associate Concertmaster of the Dallas Symphony, he is praised for his intense musicality and virtuosity. Our own Paul Posnak, a Juilliard doctoral graduate and international competition winner, joins Gary in a unique 20th Century program that reflects the artists’ Russian heritage: music of Gershwin, Bernstein and Prokofiev. PLUS! Gary’s father, renowned double-bassist Eugene Levinson, joins them for a performance by two generations of musical genius.

SUNDAY, MARCH 18
Time for Three

Violinist Nick Kendall, violinist Charles Yang, and double- bassist Ranaan Meyer, vocalists all, happily defy any traditional genre classification. With an uncommon mix of virtuosity and showmanship, this American trio performs music from Bach to Brahms, with modern premieres and original compositions, bluegrass and folk, to ingenious mash-ups of hits by the Beatles, Kanye West, Katy Perry and Justin Timberlake. PLUS! Just for SMC, Time for Three is creating a Bach-to-Blues program, designed for a cool Miami spring.

SUNDAY, APRIL 22
Messiaen Quartet: Music for Eternity

Four New York-based master musicians – pianist Daniel Epstein, violinist Sheng-Ching Hsu, clarinetist Eric Umble, and cellist Ben Larsen – fulfill their dream of performing Messiaen’s masterpiece Quartet for the End of Time. Captured at Verdun in 1940, Messiaen transcended his Stalag prison camp’s misery to express his exalted vision of music as a spiritual connection to Creation and the Creator. First performed in prison, the Quartet, named after the Angel’s call to the Apocalypse in Revelations, is one of the most significant chamber compositions of the 20th century. PLUS! The Quartet’s impact is heightened by an exotic introductory work, Tasveer, by award-winning Indian-American composer Reena Esmail.
